Dr. P.R. Balamurugan is an ophthalmologist with more than 25+ years of experience in the field of ophthalmology. He completed his MBBS degree in 1994 and MS degree in ophthalmology from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in 1998. He won the Gold Medal for the best outgoing student in MS Ophthalmology from Kasturba Medical college, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
Dr Balamurugan is an ophthalmologist with more than 25 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology and has done over 40,000+ cataract surgeries so far. He has undergone training in cornea and external diseases of the eye and has vast experience in diagnosing and treating ocular surface diseases
After his post graduate training, he did a fellowship in cataract and IOL microsurgery for a period of one year. He had completed both the basic and clinical examinations conducted by International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) in 2002 and obtained the Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS) in 2003.
He joined Sankara Eye Hospital in 2010 and underwent fellowship training in cornea and external eye diseases in 2010-11. He further did an observership program in cornea at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London in 2013.
Currently he is working as a senior consultant at Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, Chennai. He has trained many young ophthalmologists undergoing the post graduate course conducted by Diplomate of National Board in clinical skills and various anterior segment surgeries. He has published in national and international journals and presented papers in many conferences. He has vast experience in cataract and his training and years of experience has helped him in the precise diagnosis and treatment of various corneal and external eye diseases.
